When Do You Need Insurance?

Many venues and clients require performers to carry liability insurance. Common scenarios:

  • Venue requirement — Hotels, country clubs, corporate venues, and universities often require a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming them as "Additional Insured" before you can perform
  • Client contract clause — Some clients include an insurance requirement in their booking terms
  • Own protection — Even without a requirement, insurance protects you if a speaker falls, a cable trips someone, or equipment damages property
  • Outdoor/festival events — Higher-risk environments where liability exposure increases

What It Covers

Event liability insurance typically includes:

  • General liability — Third-party bodily injury and property damage (e.g., a guest trips over your cable)
  • Venue property damage — Accidental damage to the event space, fixtures, or rented equipment
  • Medical payments — Immediate medical costs for minor injuries at the event (regardless of fault)
  • Certificate of Insurance (COI) — Downloadable proof of coverage you can send to the venue or client

How to Get Covered

  1. Visit the Event Insurance page from your dashboard sidebar
  2. Select your performer type for a tailored quote
  3. Complete the application on the insurance partner's site (opens in a new tab)
  4. Download your COI and share it with your venue or client

Policies can cover a single event or provide annual coverage for multiple gigs.

Important Notes

  • Insurance is optional — GigOrganizer works with or without it
  • GigOrganizer is not an insurance provider — we connect you with a trusted partner
  • Coverage details, pricing, and claims are handled entirely by the insurance partner
  • The insurance link opens in a new tab — you leave GigOrganizer to complete the purchase
  • Your performer type affects the quote (DJs, circus performers, etc. have different risk profiles)
