Common Scenarios

W-9 email not received

  • Check team member's spam folder
  • Verify email address is correct
  • Use "Resend W-9" to send a fresh email (24-hour cooldown between resends)
  • Note: W-9 emails come from TaxBandits, not GigOrganizer

TIN verification stuck

  • IRS verification typically completes in 24 hours
  • If stuck beyond 48 hours, use "Poll TIN Status" to manually check
  • If still pending, the IRS may be backlogged — wait and retry

Need to cancel a 1099

  • Before transmission: Use "Delete Draft" to remove it
  • After IRS acceptance: Use "Void 1099" to file a $0 correction (permanent)
  • You cannot void a filing that's still being transmitted

W-9 verification failed, contractor unresponsive

  • Status shows "W-9 Verification Failed" when TIN doesn't match
  • GigOrganizer automatically asks the contractor to review their W-9
  • If they don't respond, use "File with Manual TIN" to enter the correct TIN and file anyway

Need to correct a filed 1099

  • Navigate to Tax Center > Corrections
  • Correct: recipient address, TIN, name, or amount
  • Corrections are free — no Filing Credit needed
  • Only available for IRS-accepted filings

Address mismatch when filing

  • If the W-9 address differs from TaxBandits' records, you'll see an address review step
  • Choose which address to use: "On File" (your copy) or "Filing Partner" (TaxBandits' copy)
  • Selection is recorded for audit trail
